Last week also saw us transition from Autumn into Winter – and I am sure many of you felt the colder morning last week, so if you’re one of our early birds remember to pack your hats and gloves! This time of year is amazing for the produce at our farmers’ market – this is the time when our greens and winter veggies are in abundance (or at least starting to come into abundance). If you don’t already, have a look round our veggie stalls to see what is in season at the moment and maybe even start to shop and eat around what is in season at the time. We have become so conditioned to being able to have all foods all year round and lost understanding of what is actually grown at what time of year. The farmers’ market is the perfect place to start to learn about seasonal eating, ask our farmers what is in season and maybe even start to make a change to your eating habits. The joys of eating seasonally include that the food is fresher and more local, you actually start to look forward to the season when a particular favourite is coming back into season and of course eating seasonally helps to support all of our local farmers.
