10th Birthday Celebration – fabulous entertainers, new macadamia stall and much more.

Hello Everyone

What a beautiful weekend – sunshine warming our hearts and drying out the mud that we have been squishing through for a few weeks and all in time for our 10th birthday celebration this Wednesday.

We are all very excited to celebrate this achievement. This is an opportunity to give a few shout outs!

Firstly …
A HUGE heart felt THANK YOU to all our wonderful loyal customers – our local community and villagers – for your support over the past 10 years. Your regular patronage has meant that we have been able to successfully expand adding more stalls. We look forward to the market continuing to grow into the future, thanks to you all.

A HUGE heart felt THANK YOU to all our amazingly dedicated farmers and producers who turn up to the market – many well before dawn – to set up come rain, hail or shine and more recently even despite flooding. Without your dedication and commitment to our market we simply would not BE. So thank you one and all.

Our HUGE heart felt thanks to the Murwillumbah Showground Trust for their 10 years of wonderful support for our market and to The Family Centre’s Paula LaBelle and her volunteers for our ever popular Kiddies Patch.

It really does take a community …..

What’s News at the Market this Week?

This week we have a new stall commencing plus ….

FUN, FUN and more FUN with roving entertainers throughout the morning.

We’ll entertain you all morning with music by Jerome Williams, roving entertainment with renowned magician Apollo Jackson AND Jason Nichols – juggler, stilt walker extraordinaire and creator of fun character such as The Cat in the Hat; a clown and more. And we have a brilliant hoola hoop artist Breanna Maria twirling her way around the market.

For the very young there are extra special Kiddies Patch activities too. There really is something for all ages.

About Apollo …
Since the age of 7 he has developed his own unique style of entertainment, combining mind blowing sleight of hand, breath-taking illusions, death-defying escapes and brain-busting mentalism.
We are thrilled that this highly recognised master magician is joining us for our 10th birthday. Rest assured there won’t be any death defying escapes in his morning repertoire 😂.

Kiddies Patch this week will be making a beautiful rainbow fruit and vegetable community collage on a new calico banner that will be used to decorate the Kiddies Patch area for the next few years.

What fun! This activity is for all ages so come and add your touch to this new banner.

For the little ones especially … we will have a collage activity making vegie and fruit shapes and gluing them to a plate so bring your littlies and stay with them to help as they create a fun plate of “vegies”.

The young ones will love playing around the sensory ribbon curtain too.

These wonderful activities are thanks to The Family Centre and their amazing volunteers. BUT they do ask that you supervise your children whilst at Kiddies Patch as the safety and happiness of our children is paramount

And there is more that is new …

Meet Sam and John at our new stall, Rainforest Foods this week. In next week’s Newsletter I will write a story about Rainforest Foods and also about the retirement of Ian and Leone McRae of Nudgel Nut’s.  But for this weekly simply know that you will find macadamia nuts in the regular spot where you always found Ian, next to Spice Palace.

Rainforest Foods has natural macadamia kernels, chocolate coated macas, dry roasted salted kernels as well as macadamia nut butter including mac-cao (maca spread with raw cacao), macadamia oil and much more.

Cooking demos …
Join our cooking demonstrations and we’ll show you how to make quick and easy meals from fresh local produce collected from our farm stalls at the 8.30 demonstration with our own test kitchen chef Veronica and local favourite Rada.

At 10.30 Tusta Ksna Das from our Heart and Halo stall will share his knowledge about spicing lentils and creating a delicious base for any curry using only natural whole spices. He will also share the devotional aspect of preparing and offering food bringing the heart and the halo to your meals.

And now for a little about Tusta ..

Tusta Das was so inspired by his Mediterranean Father who loved cooking, and preparing authentic Maltese cuisine, that he began cooking professionally around the age of sixteen.

His foodie journey took him through Asia and the Middle East where he was drawn to  the devotional aspect of cooking and sharing food with reverence and love, and also the medicinal aspect of plants that flavour our food such roots, bark, leaves and seeds!

Tusta returned to Australia in 2000 and opened his own restaurant in the northern rivers.  He now prepares wholesome high protein-dense meals that he sells frozen at our market and to locals shops.

Our new vehicular entrance opens this week … so PLEASE look out for our market flags on either side of the new entrance – it is the very first gate along Queensland Rd just after the intersection with Mooball Street. The entrance used for the past 10 years is CLOSED to vehicles but open for the many pedestrians that regularly use this gate.
