What’s GREAT at the Market this Week?
Seasonal produce:
Strawberries are now in abundance and delicious so visit Rainbow Fruit Flats to taste the sweetness of spring.
Kale is also in abundance so if you love your kale or have not yet tried it now is a great time to enjoy it. Peas are still plentiful so why not plan a finely shredded kale and pea salad topped with pecans and a honey mustard dressing. YUM!
Black sapote also known as chocolate pudding fruit is popping up in several stalls. If you love chocolate you will enjoy this fruit. It is delicious eaten fresh or used as a chocolate substitute in smoothies. Simply mix the pulp with yogurt or kefir and lemon juice with a small drop of honey for a delicious treat. It has a short season so enjoy this unique fruit this week or next from Sylva Lining Organics and Jumping Red Ant.
Belles Kitchen – Belinda is expanding her range of pantry products to include an artisan chilli jam – wonderful with so many dishes and a quince paste – simply delicious with cheeses.
Fair Food Week – 10-19th October
Fair Food Week is about raising awareness about the many critical issues our food and farming system is facing, and what we can do to tackle those issues.
Fair Food Week is an opportunity to focus on supporting local food businesses – and alternative food options to the big supermarkets. Supporting local food production is exactly what our market is all about too so we really appreciate that the local community has embraced our producers and spread the word about the weekly market – it is both fun and fair!
