Nam Doc Mai and Lychees😋

What’s NEW at the Market this week?
We are extending our range of mangoes to include Nam Doc Mai variety brought by Doug and Blanche Narbey of Narbey’s Best Avocados. No they don’t have any avocados as their season is over but they do have Kensington Pride and Nam Doc Mai mangoes. Everest Farm may also have some Nam Doc Mai as well as their KP’s and R2E2’s but as they have such a high value Will sends most to the Sydney market where they get top dollar from those who know and value this particular mango variety.

The Nam Doc Mai mango is a mango cultivar which originated in Thailand and was eaten pickled, salted or dried. It can be used in recipes calling for green papaya. It is the most popular mango variety in Thailand and highly sought after by the Asian community for their green mango salads.

Here are two links to green mango salad recipes: http://www.pennysmenu.com/recipe/asian-green-mango-salad/ and https://www.naturalhealthmag.com.au/nouri…/green-mango-salad

Of course it is also delicious fully ripened and eaten as you would any other variety.

Also new this Wednesday are lychees at Jumping Red Ant. If you haven’t tried this very sweet fruit now is your chance. Lychees are one fruit that must be allowed to ripen fully on the tree itself before picking since the ripening process ceases soon after it harvested. Originating in China, lychee (sometimes spelled litchi) is a tropical fruit known for its sweet and fragrant flavour.

To eat the lychee gently peel away outer coat slowly and then squeeze the aril — the fleshy part around the seed — into your mouth.

What’s GREAT at the Market this Week?

So much is delicious and great at the market right now from our raw Caldera Honey choices that include Jelly Bush honey with great healing qualities; raspberries from Tallogum Raspberries, widely popular sugar cane juice, olives and spices locally produced and Knox and Aya creamy vegan ice cream.

We still have the most delicious watermelons at Everest Farm stall and Summit Organics; red papaya at Everest Farm Stall and lots of fresh vegies too. Delicious sweet corn – perfect raw or barbecued – simply place a cob in its husk on the barbie or char-grill it without the husk for a caramelised sweetness. Salad greens and herbs are at all the organic farm stalls.

Come and enjoy breakfast at the market this week while stocking up on all your fresh foods and more.
