Dutch carrots, organic carrots and lots of leafy greens.

What’s GREAT at the Market?

When there is an abundance of any fresh fruit or vegie it is an open invitation to be creative. At the moment there is an abundance of leafy greens, curly lettuce (Summit Organics), kale (all the farm stalls) and some of the herbs. Lettuce leaves make a great wrap and/or tortilla replacements for anyone wanting to reduce carbs so if you haven’t tried give it a go.

The Gourmet Salad Hut had an abundance of coriander last week so coriander pesto it is (with Nudgel Nuts macadamia nuts too)! Coriander and kale pesto is also wonderful. Summit Organics has bunches of carrots for the next 4-5 weeks and so does Everest Farm with their Dutch carrots that are so sweet and crunchy. Carrots make the perfect dipping stick to enjoy pesto as a dip – yummo! Although my favourite way to enjoy spring and summer carrots is in a carrot and ginger salad with cranberries and orange juice. Check our Recipes page on our website for the recipe posted last year. Plus we have lots of delicious avocados too especially now that Doug and Blanche Narbey are back with Narbey’s Best Avocados.

And we still have Mio Wraps at the market this week so if you haven’t yet try one of these delicious buckwheat wraps cooked in coconut oil and stuffed with fresh vegies.

All Natural Meat Co has fish as well as their own fresh meats. Try some Red Emperor this weeks with a delicious garden salad. They also have a great selection of fresh meats that you can collect in your own container – bring it this week clearly labelled and pick it up with your order completed next week. This is all part of the service Lee offers to reduce single use plastic.
