Market News 5

Our recent wet weather has caused havoc for our farmers. Unfortunately the blueberries couldn’t be picked and whilst we like to advertise that we are open rain, hail or shine it can be difficult for some farmers to get out of their properties when it’s flooding.
It’s time for the kids to go back to school and it’s been great having Delece Flight from the Mount Warning Preschool come and entertain the children at our market during the school holidays. I know some of our farmers are keen to be involved with the local schools and eventually would like to assist in their education about the importance of growing food locally and healthy eating practices.
Our recent customer research indicated a need for value added products within the market. Therefore very soon we will be opening up expressions of interest for any local hobby farmers who are willing to add value to their produce. An example of this type of product would be a herb or vegetable grower making their own curry pastes, chutneys or relishes. We are also keen for any poultry farmers who can provide fresh product to our market.
As well as it being the year of the farmer we must not forget it’s also year of the dragon and now is the perfect time to purchase all the ingredients for your Asian stir fry.
Our market is open 7am to 11am every Wednesday just visit us at the Murwillumbah Showgrounds via the Harry Williams Gate.
