Reflecting on 2011 it was quite a busy year for our market and farmers. We had four local guest chefs showcasing our food with their cooking talents and this year we would like to continue this practice. Since conception we’ve grown to 28 farmers providing their local produce from fruit & vegetables to olives, cheese, nuts, honey, rice and native foods. This year we’d like to have more growers and make some improvements to the market The Tweed Valley Whey Cheese girls won a gold medal at the Brisbane Cheese awards and Zeta’s coffee won 2 bronze medals at the Golden bean awards.
2012 is the year of the farmer and our market will be actively involved in celebrating the role farmers play in ensuring food is on our table. We can also look forward to joint initiatives with the Chamber of commerce, the Tweed Council and some local community groups.
As we sell fresh seasonal products gone from our stalls are the apples, avocadoes, lychees and soon our bean supply will diminish. Sadly our blueberry supplier will be leaving us at the end of the month but we will have new products such as Dragonfruits, raspberries and figs. Jumping Red Ant will have plenty of limes and lemons and soon the new season fuerte avocados. Will Everest farms has plenty of banana’s and we have managed to snag a local fisherman who has been providing freshly caught snapper however his catch is weather dependent. Our web site and especially our facebook site will advise on up to date market stall attendances.
And congratulations to Renate from Cabarita who won the December food hamper.
