What’s GREAT at the Market?
Silverbeet is so abundant at the moment that it is on special at Summit Organics. Last week when this was put on the SPECIALS board at the market it flew out the door and why not at only $2 per bunch for ORGANIC silverbeet!
And with duck eggs now available every week at Woodland Valley Farm Stall what a combination. We can all make the best quiches and frittatas ever!! And because I am always looking for new ways to cook our great selection of produce I asked the customers at the Summit Farm stall last Wednesday for ideas and Maite suggested one that she enjoys: shredded silverbeet and sorrel cooked well in a coconut cream. I added garlic, salt and black pepper too. She said that it is delicious on fish. I served it with roasted cauliflower and root vegies and it was superb. The lemony tang of the sorrel is a wonderful complement combined with silverbeet and I love the creamy texture of the coconut cream; the perfect combination. Thanks Maite.
Wollumbin Gourmet Mushrooms has lots of golden oyster mushrooms this week so another delicious addition to your duck egg quiche or frittata. Or simply cook them in lashings of butter and serve them on toasted Crabbes Creek Woodfired sourdough for breakfast
Reed avocados – have a nutty, creamy flavour and both delicious and distinctive in shape being round like a ball. They have been picked by Jumping Red Ant this week so if you haven’t tried these do so this week but be quick because early in the season there usually aren’t a lot and for those who know this avocado it is VERY popular. With a skin that remains green when the fruit ripens it is unlike most other avocados and is quite different to the better known black skinned Hass variety. They will have their regular Hass as well. Smashed avocado on toast anyone?
