Mother’s Day

As part of the Think Global, Eat Local campaign and International Compost Awareness Week, the Caldera Farmers Market is presenting a free workshop on Wednesday May 8 called, “Healthy Soil + Healthy Compost = Healthy Produce.” David from SoiLife will demonstrate how to compost in standard garden pots. This method of composting is ideal for busy people and those who live in apartments with limited outdoor space. This will be followed by a demonstration by Greg from Farmers Choice Organics on how to create a hay bale garden. Hay bale gardens are a cost effective alternative to raised
beds or planter boxes and readily turn an unused area into a productive and attractive garden. Gain new skills, share a new experience and meet some like-minded people this Wednesday at the market between 9.30am to 10am.

Something to savour for Mother’s Day
With Mother’s Day this Sunday, the market is the place to stock the larder for that special day luncheon and purchase a tasty or living gift. Here an idea or two:

– Imagine a wicker basket brimming with local produce – decadent chocolate coated macadamias, creamy home style Aioli, a freshly made herb based dip, an olive tapenade or tub of naturally cured
olives, aromatic coffee beans, ready to eat Turkish Baklava, local raw honey, and hand crafted goat feta blended with lemon myrtle and roasted garlic – all tucked between radiantly fresh fruit, herbs and vegetables.

– Buy your mum a fruit tree and plant it for her. You can evenpurchase the soil, mulch and soil enhancing nutrients. No roomfor a fruit tree? Pot some of her favourite vegetables or herbs in a hand painted tub or pot.

May is a time to celebrate Mum and a time to celebrate our local food supply. How lucky are we to have local farmers to grow our food. Let’s support them and together we can work towards making the Tweed asustainable food source for us, our kids and our grandkids.

See you at the market – every Wednesday – 7am until 11am (rain or shine) at Murwillumbah Showgrounds via the Harry Williams Gate.
