Jaboticaba

What’s GREAT at the Market this Week?jaboticaba-image-courtesy-of-wikipedia

Seasonal produce: Jaboticaba

Susie from My Farm Kitchen is back this week with one of her specialties – Jaboticaba Jelly. Jaboticaba is an unusual purple black skinned fruit know as the Brazilian Grape Tree – being a popular native to Brazil –    Its fruiting is quite striking as the “grapes” form directly on the old growth trunk and branches instead of on new growth branches of the tree.Image is courtesy of Wikipedia. This jaboticabajellytree grows beautifully at Weka Weka Farm – Susie’s family farm. Jaboticaba is high in protein and antioxidants and is delicious as a dessert fruit as well as a jelly, wine or sorbet.

Bio Organic Farm – fresh young baby spinach now availablebaby-spinach. They have lots of new season greens so if you love organic produce visit Bio Organic Farm this week.

Sylva Lining Organics has loads of lettuce on special tomorrow plus spring onions, and eggplant. spring-onions

Sadly two of our favourite stalls are running low on their seasonal produce and only have a couple of weeks to go – Nudgel Nuts and Narbey’s Best Avocados. It has been a less productive year for both with weather and other things influencing their production so they are finishing earlier than usual. Both will return next year in March and April respectively.
