What’s NEW at the market this week?
FRESH SEAFOOD. Arriving at the market for the first time FRESHLY harvested oysters and FRESHLY caught mackerel, snapper and prawns – all ready for EASTER.
The photo shows a friendly dolphin checking out the Brunswick oyster lease.
Noel Baggaley of Brunswick Seed Oysters has confirmed that he WILL be at the market this week. So come and stock up on FRESH SEAFOOD for Easter. All oysters are raised in the Brunswick and Tweed Rivers and all seafood is locally caught.
Noel and his Seafood Stall will be found between TANZO Apples and 11th Hour Coffee – outside.PEARS and Quinces feature this week at TANZO Apples along with their new season Royal Gala apples. Now it is time for me to make one of my favourite desserts – pears in port! A great Easter treat.
A fully ripe quince has a wonderful perfume. Did you know that it belongs to the apple family with much the same shape as an apple but a furry skin? Quinces should NOT be eaten raw because they are very hard and bitter but they make excellent preserves. When cooked for a long time the quince changes to a deep red colour with a rich, perfumed flavour. It makes a great sorbet and is wonderful stewed with apples for an apple pie.
