Our best wishes to Des Cecil of Cecil Farms Stall who is in Lismore Hospital after getting on the wrong side of a very strong cow.
What’s New This Week?
Salads can be nourishing, refreshing AND delicious OR unimaginatively boring. This week it will only take the combination of Grumpy Grandma’s olive oil from Rob at Spice Palace and balsamic or apple cider vinegar from our newest stallholder Matt and Anna of Byron Bay Gourmet and your salad will be transformed. Byron Bay Balsamic vinegars are not only perfect for salads they are also wonderful used in dressings, marinades and over fruit. Created in their commercial kitchen at Mullumbimby – Matt and Anna were inspired while on a European adventure where they enjoyed the diversity of Europe’s glorious food markets.
Balsamic vinegar has been made by reduction in Italian kitchens for centuries, mentioned in recipes as far back as 1046. The most sought after balsamic now is over 100 years old and costs thousands of dollars per litre. Italians believed that good vinegar was an elixir of life, long before science could prove the health benefits now attributed to it. Check out the benefits of vinegar consumption on ‘Dr Google’.
So…… Matt and Anna looked for a local vinegar producer and found one only a couple of hours drive from home. Their base product was fabulous Anna said and making reductions has enabled them to infuse the amazing tastes of the Northern Rivers Bush into their vinegar to make their stunning Byron Bay Bush Balsamic that includes Lemon Myrtle, Cinnamon Myrtle, Aniseed Myrtle and Strawberry Gum. Look out for Matt and Anna this week AND try a sample!
Children’s Activities

Sadly blueberries have finished a little earlier than expected. Otto said that they hoped for more fruit from their summer variety but this is not so – perhaps the summer heat. Apparently blueberries they can just suddenly stop fruiting and this is what has happened. We look forward to their return in about July or August.
