Autumn greens, award winning olive oil and eggplant recipes

The market celebrates its 4th birthday on Wednesday 8th April and you are invited to join the FUN! See more details below.

 What’s New this week?

As the weather cools leading into Easter we are seeing an increasing range of new season produce each week – autumn greens are in full production with beans, spinach, cos lettuce , rocket and kale; new pumpkins along with sweet potatoes, capsicum, zucchini are arriving week by week. The Gourmet Salad Hut has heaps of watercress, basil, mizuna and lots more …. great for pestos and super green salads….10340069_233924600139050_595607497369234667_n

Eggplants are abundant and if you are new to cooking this vegie you might like to try a recipe shared by Sylva from Sylva Lining Organics – slice eggplant about 1 cm thick, and place in a well oiled baking dish, top with quartered red onions scattered across the eggplant, add sliced sweet potato and thickly sliced capsicum for extra flavour. Toss crushed cloves of garlic and sticks of rosemary or thyme amongst the vegies. Drizzle with oil and give it all a good shake before placing in the oven. Cook until the vegies look and smell divine!

Their  wood-smoked olive oil from received the highest score in the country’s most prestigious agricultural show  in 2014. Grumpy Grandma’s Wood Smoked Olive Oil scored 93.67 out of 100 – a score higher than any of the extra virgin olive oils winning  a gold medal in its category at the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show Olive Oil Competition. While you are waiting to fill your oil bottle – try some of their Spice Place’s delightful dips and explore their spice blends. I love Chemoula rubbed onto the skin of a chicken before roasting and in omelettes and Ras al Hanout is excellent in soups and on roast vegies.
