After the floods…we’re back open!

While it is time to return to some normality and calm after Christmas, last week as many of you will know there was excessive rainfall over the New Year period – so it was not the start to 2024 we had all been hoping for. This rainfall unfortunately led both the Murwillumbah Showground and our back up location, the Murwillumbah Leagues Club flooding – this also meant that the market was not able to proceed as there were still flood waters in the market area and also the car park was flooded. This was one of the rare times in which our market was simply not able to continue – despite best efforts of myself and the Market’s Management Committee. We all certainly missed the market going ahead and I am sure many of you (as I am) are desperate for our market food!

I am very happy to let you know that this week the market will be able to continue in its usual spot at the Murwillumbah Showground. Depending on the condition of the Showground and the amount of rainfall over the next 24 to 36 hours, customer parking will either be as per usual or at the Cattle Sale Yards across the road from the Showground. Please watch out for signs regarding parking on the morning and check our Instagram page and the “MURWILLUMBAH MATTERS” Facebook page for more updates.

If market parking is indeed at the Cattle Sale Yards, could I please kindly ask all of you to drive slowly and take extra care when travelling down Queensland Road. For safety reasons (especially pedestrian safety), there shall be no parking along Queensland Road – this shall be marked accordingly. Thank you in advance for your understanding, co-operation and extra care. If you have any questions, please contact me on 0415 328 672 or manager@murwillumbahfarmersmarket.com.au.
