What’s GREAT at the Market this Week?
Gunter’s Flammkuchen is at the market from now until Jon returns with Crabbes Creek Wood Fired Pizzas so visit Gunter this week between Noel’s seafood stall and the apples outside under the camphor laurels and enjoy!
Seasonal produce: Pumpkins!
A most versatile vegie – wonderful baked, creamed, pureed and in desserts. And that is just the beginning. They are great in curries, risotto and in salads.
I love using cold roasted pumpkin tossed through a salad mix (include baby spinach) then top this with crushed fetta (Nimbin Valley Dairy’s “smooth cow”) and lightly roasted crushed Tweed River pecans. Toss in a few olives and drizzle with a little olive oil (Grumpy Grandma’s from Spice Palace) and you have a most delicious and nourishing meal. For dinner serve it with barbecued lamb strips or pan friend salmon.
Pumpkin is a powerhouse of goodness! Enjoy its versatility knowing also that with more than 200 percent of your recommended daily intake of vitamin A it is a powerful natural anti-oxidant and is required by the body for maintaining the integrity of skin, mucusa and good eye sight. It is believed that it plays a big part in protecting the eyes from cataracts and degeneration and helps improve night vision, according to the (USA) National Institute of Health and USDA National Nutrient database.
Pumpkins are available at the following farm stalls:
- Bio Organic Farm
- Cecil Farm
- Everest Farm
- Sylva Lining Organics
Gnocchi Cooking demo with Jonathon Evans from Ju Ju’s at 9.30am. Watch as Jono deftly prepares and cooks a traditional gnocchi made using potatoes and flour. Not only will this be wonderful to see but wait until you taste his sauces. One is made using Wollumbin Gourmet Mushrooms and Nimbin Valley Dairy’s cultured cream. The other is a delicious tomato salsa with market basil, Grumpy Grandma’s olives and olive oil and market fresh tomatoes. Lots of fresh herbs will feature! Come along and enjoy.
