What’s good this week?
There are lots of deliciously good passionfruit at the market this week. Great eating cut in half and scooped out with a spoon – the aroma of a freshly cut passionfruit has to be one of the many thrills of eating farm fresh fruit and vegies. They are also wonderful in fruit salads; perfect in smoothies and fruit ice blocks for the children and I love the decadence of passionfruit with sliced papaya and banana, and lashings of fresh mud cream.
For your passionfruit – visit Rob and Kadi at Clothiers Creek Fresh Produce, Des and Donna at Cecil Farm , Will at Everest Farm or Ursula and Sarah at Jumping Red Ant.
We might not be able to offer a vast range of stone fruit as they don’t grow well in this area but we do have one more week of plums (TANZO Apples) and amazing blueberries from Blueberry Fields AND they are back this week. Now that the rain has cleared Otto from Blueberry Fields said that they can pick again. With 25 acres of blueberries netted to protect them from local wildlife and hail damage. They are now planting more varieties including a winter one that should be ready for picking in June or July.
Strawberries – Steve from Rainbow Fruit Flats said that their strawberries maybe coming to an end but their red dragon fruit season is getting underway with a few each more week.
Organic finger limes – Lani periodically has certified organic produce grown by her and partner Steve. Right now it is organic finger limes so visit Lani at her very popular bagel stall and buy yours to enjoy. Perhaps in a glass of iced mineral water. So refreshing!
Lychees at JRA – possibly the last week this week. I love lychees tossed in a chicken salad. Enjoy some this week.
Pick up your new season organic garlic at Sylva Lining Organics. Don’t risk the imported garlic generally available and likely to be from countries where the chemical use standards are vastly different to Australia’s. Imported garlic is fumigated with methyl bromide to ensure Australia remains free of the many diseases from garlic grown in China.
