New kale recipe …..

Produce Update:

A great variety of citrus from Quarterdeck Organic Citrus is still available so make the most of it now. I recommend the navel oranges for this very simple Flourless Chocolate Orange and Almond cake recipe (now posted on Facebook and in the Recipes section of the market’s webpage).

The large range of winter produce continues and this week. At the moment there are beautiful tight fresh heads of broccoli, trays of wheat grass for the truly dedicated, the freshest cauliflower and beautiful bunches of freshly picked herbs including rocket, coriander and parsley. And many more vegies to tempt you. Kale and spinach are in great supply. (Prices in the photo is for organic produce and may change each week according to supply).  HszI8

Over the weekend I read a recipe for using kale that was different to my uses to date. It could be used for either kale or silverbeet so here is my adaptation of David Herbert’s recipe:

Strip greens from their stalks and slice thinly. Heat oil in frypan (I use coconut oil) and fry sliced bacon (optional) until crisp. Add shallots, finely chopped chilli and a tablespoon of mustard seeds. Cook for a couple of minutes then add kale and stir until tender. Add balsamic vinegar and season with salt and pepper.  YUM!

Other produce:

Crisp fresh cos lettuce have also been plentiful2rPMq.

Healing Foods Cafe

Tamar has advised that this week the soup and salad will be:

Spiced pumpkin, sweet potato and carrot soup with coconut               milk.

Spiced quinoa and carrot salad with greens.

Tamar will have her popular fermented spelt and blueberry pancakes and her other regular menu items.

Stall changes this week:

Crabbes Creek Wood Fired is NOT at the market this week owing to a nasty virus that has laid them low. We wish Gina, Jon and their family a speedy return to good health.

Farmers Choice Organic Seedling  -a fortnightly stall – IS  at the market this week.

Koobideh Kebabs have ceased trading at the market. Pegah and Ben believe that their Persian koobideh is better suited to a full day market with a lunch crowd so we thank them for their participation in Murwillumbah and wish them success in their pursuits.
