What’s NEW at the Market this Week?
Except for the cooler nights we would barely know it is autumn but the lower evening and early morning temperature is so important to seasonal produce coming into the market now.
Mandarins – these little parcels of sweetness are now in season. Phil has mandarins + navel oranges + lemons; the Meyer is a really juicy variety that is in season now. Each week we will see more citrus varieties coming into the market with up to 38 varieties overall. In addition Phil is offering 2nd grade navels – 3 kg for $8 which I bought last week and have been loving. They are such great value for these juicy, fresh oranges.
TIP: I have been enjoying Tahitian limes but as this delightful fruit only has a short fruiting season, now is the time to juice them for freezing in an ice-cube tray to use throughout the year.
Leafy greens
Leading into the cooler winter weather it is always wise to give your immune system a boost and what better than with lemons AND leafy greens to help alkalise your body. In good supply throughout the market now is kale, bok choy, silverbeet, baby spinach, rocket, lettuce varieties, parsley and more so get creative with salads and warming casseroles made using rich homemade bone broths and these very versatile greens.

Weather Forecast is for: Patchy morning fog will be followed by a partly cloudy day with overnight temperatures falling to between 10 and 13 and daytime temperatures reaching the mid to high 20s. Another perfect mostly sunny market day.
