Lychees, plums, dragon fruit and pizzas!

What’s New

Lychees – a delightful white creamy fruit that has been harvested for this week’s market. Lychees are one fruit that must be allowed to ripen fully on the tree itself since the ripening process ceases soon after it harvested. Jumping Red Ant stall has them this week. See Ursula or Sarah at JRA.

Originating in China, lychee (sometimes spelled litchi) is a tropical fruit known for its sweet and fragrant flavour. And like all fresh foods it does have a host of health benefits.

To eat the lychee gently peel away outer coat slowly and then squeeze the aril — the fleshy part around the seed — into your mouth.

Blood PLUMS this week and throughout January – this seasonal
fruit is very popular and very juicy. Wonderful fresh and also stewed with delicious mud cream on top! Available at Costanzo Apple Stall.

Dragon Fruit – Now is the time to sink your teeth into the succulent fleshy softness of the delicious and nutritious dragon fruit from Rainbow Fruit Flats market stall.

Chilled dragon fruit are perfect on a hot summer’s day AND they also make fantastic naturally red ice blocks. Blend dragon fruit with bananas – freeze and you have a really healthy icy treat for the whole family to enjoy!

If you like to know the health benefits of what you eat then visit the Let’s Go Healthy blogspot. In brief dragon fruit are low in calories, contain no cholesterol, are high in omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, rich in vitamin C, and contain vitamins B1, B2 and B3. They are also packed with minerals such as calcium and phosphorus and contain phytoalbumins, which have antioxidant properties that help prevent the formation of cancer cells. In addition, dragon fruit is also known to increase the excretion of heavy metal toxins from the body.

Crabbes Creek Woodfired pizzas are back this week and every week.
