Pizzas back + lychees, watermelons and rockmelons.

Market Management and stallholders wish all our followers and simages-8hoppers a very Merry Christmas. We hope this Christmas brings many happy experiences creating many joyful memories to recall during 2016.

What’s NEW this week?

Pizzas are back this week and during January (not on 30th Dec).

Cooling fruit and veg – lychees, watermelon and rockmelon are now at the market.

Lychees – picked by John Atkin and his farm workers at Jumping Red Ant – are available this week. This tropical fruit – usually grown in Queensland can alLychees on treeso be grown in Northern NSW as John has successfully proven. Toss some

lychees in your fruit salad this Christmas or mix with mango and diced chicken with mint and cos chopped through. Toss on a few very slightly roasted pecans for a very special salad.

Some fruit and vegies are perfect summer foods as they help to hydrate us. Cucumbers –
plentiful during summer are approximately 85% – 95% water. My 3 year old grandson who loves his water picked a cucumber from my garden late yesterday and munched on it as we continued pottering around. Fresh and with a range of Lebanese cucmbers smvitamins it was the perfect entre for his dinner. It is also known for assisting in repairing skin collagen.

While the American Heart Association says that watermelon is a top food for search-1cardiovascular health as it has no fat – it is also very nutritious. Its bright red color, means that it is high in lycopene – an antioxidant that has a range of health benefits. With its high water content watermelon helps hydrate cells and remove waste products.

A good rockmelon is one with a strong aroma so add rockmelon and passionfruit to your fruit salad and it brings the colour and flavours of summer to your table.
