Sweet n Sourdough

This week on ‘Meet Your Stallholder’ we are meeting one of our new stallholders to the market – Megan from Sweet ‘n Sourdough. I thought this was a great opportunity to introduce you all to someone new and help in welcoming them to the market!

Megan tells me that she started her Sweet ‘n Sourdough journey about 4 years ago. At first Megan just wanted to start her own family business – and now she runs her business with 3 generations – her, her dad and her daughter – so this is truly a family run business which is beautiful to see.

When Megan was deciding what business she wanted to run – like many of us, Megan loves food – so this was a great place to start. Then Megan heard about two sisters in Tasmania who run a doughnut business – and this inspired Megan to create Sweet ‘n Sourdough! Now that Sweet ‘n Sourdough was born Megan had to get the perfect doughnut recipe – so she spent many a late night pouring through recipes, testing out recipes, experimenting and tweaking recipes. Through all of the experimentation Megan finally came up with their current sourdough starter – and so the start of their doughnut recipe. Which is a delicious!

Sweet ‘n Sourdough handmake all of their sourdough doughnuts in the beautiful Northern Rivers. Their doughnuts are bomboloni-style doughnuts, which originates from an old Italian recipe that they have developed to create a beautiful light fluffy doughnut, perfection.

Once, the doughnuts are made they are filled with a range of local, fresh and seasonal fillings. Megan tells me that it is so important to keep the fillings seasonal and local – and tries to ensure that all fillings are sourced as locally and seasonally as possible. The fillings include lemon curd, dark chocolate ganache, raspberry and chia jam (v), brown sugar custard, raspberry and lemon glaze (v) and passionfruit and lime glaze (v). Oh my goodness!

You will find Sweet ‘n Sourdough at Mullum Farmers Market, Bryon and Ballina – and of course, now at Murwillumbah Farmers’ Market every week, which is incredibly exciting.

What a beautiful story this is of one of our new stallholders. Please join us in welcoming Megan and the Sweet ‘n Sourdough team to the market. You will find Megan next to Costanzo Apples.
