SEKO Food

This week on ‘Meet your Stallholder’ we the people behind one our recently new stalls, SEKO Food – each and every week you will see Yunis at the market flying the SEKO Food flag.

SEKO Food is the meeting of minds, hearts and tastebuds between top Turkish chef Senol and his close friend Korhan (Senol + Korhan = SEKO). Before moving to Australia 17 years ago, Senol worked as a chef in Turkey, which is when he created a recipe for a snack that was unique, healthy and delicious, he had to share it with the world – and of course this is their delicious falafel you will see at the stall today! So, Senol partnered with his Turkish friend Korhan, an enthusiastic do-er with a great vision for the business to make sure that he could do just that.

In 2014, the friends launched their delicious falafel range. To Senol and Korhan, “falafel’ is more than just food – the taste and smell evokes memories of their Turkish homeland, while still being inspired by our current home of Australia. That’s why they don’t say that our falafel recipe is purely “Turkish”, but rather, a fusion. It’s a nod to both their past and present.

Over the last 9 years SEKO Food has grown to be what it is today – their range of produce has also expanded to include dips, breads, dolma and other Turkish delights. SEKO Food tell me that they are committed to using healthy, quality ingredients in making their falafel (sourced as locally as possible), and they make each and every falafel by hand, daily. Their falafels are also vegan and gluten free.

As many of you will no doubt already know from trying the falafel – they are crispy and flavorful on the outside, tender on the inside, and loaded with bursts of lemon, garlic and tahini in each bite. They taste amazing alone, but SEKO Food tell me they are complemented very well by their range of dips. Yum!

Hopefully you have made it over to the SEKO Food stall in recent weeks to check out what they have to offer. If not, please do pop by and have a try, ask Yunis questions and enjoy! If you would like to follow the SEKO Food journey more, please follow them on Instagram @seko_food.
