This week I would like to give a shout out to two of our weekly shoppers and volunteers, Ari Ehrlich and Marcel Cheatle. Ari and Marcel have been coming along to the market for some time now and a little while ago they approached me to ask if they could start collecting food donations from stallholders at the end of the market. These donations would then be delivered to the Murwillumbah Food Hub for those in need. The market agreed to this wonderful initiative – as it not only reduces food waste by providing an avenue for farmers and producers with perishable products to direct their produce (and make them more sustainable) but also gives those in need in our community access to wholesome food. Since then Ari and Marcel have been each and every week, without fail, collecting food donations from stallholders (and also some customers). A massive thank you to Ari and Marcel for championing this initiative. Also, a massive thank you to our stallholders and customers who have donated.
