What’s New this week?
Tweed River Pecan’s new season pecans in their shells return to the Nudgel Nut Stall.
Shepard avocados – a small supply of new season at Narbey’s Best Avocados and also available at Jumping Red Ant also has this delightful avocado.
Fran and Tim O’Hara from Five 90 Fruit Company will be joining us for about 4 weeks or so. They will be positioned between Narbey’s Best Avocados and Local Fusion Foods inside.
4th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION – the birthday party kicks off at 7am with:
⚛ Free gift vouchers (and fruit and vegie trays) of more than $800 in value are being drawn every half hour starting at 7.30 am. Vouchers have been kindly donated from the many businesses that support the market including:

AND the final gift voucher drawn will be a FOUR DAY FESTIVAL PASS to the COUNTRY ROOTS FESTIVAL in October – valued at more than $250.
⚛ Included in the draw are from stall holders with the fruit and vegie trays being drawn mid morning and last draw of the morning.
Several artisan stalls are setting up especially for this celebration so prepare to purchase a unique and special Mother’s Day gift at the market this week (for more details follow our Facebook page). We are thrilled to have:
⚛ Jennifer Grace, a contemporary artist based at Kingscliff who photographs her art to make cards and prints.
⚛ Mon Manabu, a contemporary artist living at New Brighton with her hand painted images placed onto wood (including jewellery) and canvas.
⚛ Freyja Tasci’s Apiwraps – reusable wraps for food lunch boxes and food storage and
⚛ Lise Racine, owner of the Herbal Gardener who offers herbal skin care products hand made on her farm in Tallebudgera.
⚛ The Murwillumbah Men’s Shed with their specially crafted camphorlaurel breadboards .
For the children we have:
⚛ Gina from G’s Creative Tie & Dyes holding a mini workshop for younger ones with children’s T Shirts up to size 8.
⚛ And a TRACTOR for kiddies to explore thanks to Noel at Noel Graham Farm Machinery.
Of course no celebration would be the same without –
⚛ Face Painting by the colourful Gretchen Hambly.
Look out for the Tasting Tent with samples from bagels to choc coated macas, Byron Bay miso, Kasundi, Raw Sesame crackers, Kale Chips, muffins, red papaya, tempeh and lots more!
Seasonal fruit or vegie recipe: Kaye’s Pecan and Ricotta Celebration Cake .
Ingredients:
250 g (11/4 cups) ricotta cheese
11/2 cups of freshly squeezed orange juice
1 tsp bicarb soad
2 3/4 cups of SR flour (of for GF use combination of buckwheat, brown rice, Tapioca, coconut flours)
¼ cup honey
2 tsp mixed psice
1 cup chopped pecans
(optional) 2 eggs beaten
(optional 2 tablespoons brandy or molasses.
Method:
Combine ricotta cheese, bicard soda, fruit, honey, molasses and juice in a saucepan and simmer for 5 minutes. Cool. Add dry ingredients and eggs and mix well. Add brandy. Spoon mixture into a greased and lined 23cm cake pan 2 loaf tins.
Press added pecans on top for decoration. Bale at 160c for 30 minutes and 130c for the remainder (approx. 2 hours).
