What’s NEW at the Market this Week?
This week we have classic sweet shelling peas at Jumping Red Ant and snow peas at Cecil Farm stall. Both are such a welcome vegie to include in so many meals whether raw or lightly steamed. It makes eating seasonally so exciting when a new and very popular vegie like peas of all kinds comes into season.
We welcome new stallholder – Susie Hunt of My Farm Kitchen to our market NEXT week. Susie brings beautiful created artisan preserves from the family’s farm Weka Weka where their 10 acres produces bountiful supplies of citrus and passsionfruit used by Susie to produce citrus and passionfruit curds and preserved lemon. She also makes red wine chilli jelly and Jaboticaba Jelly and much more using produce from their farm.
Rocket is also available now at BioOrganic Farm and the Gourmet Salad Hut Stalls. Such a tasty addition in salads and smoothies.
Jumping Red Ant has Sharwill avocados being picked at their Duranbah farm site today ready for this week’s market. Similar to the Fuerte avo they constitute 20% of all avocados grown in NSW. Usually available from June to August.
Be tempted: Rocket, avocado, cucumber
and pea salad with pecans and crumbed feta
Wash and rip up market fresh rocket leaves and toss through cubed cucumbers, shelled peas or finely sliced snow peas, a whole avocado thinly sliced and then toss with some crunchy lightly roasted pecans, finely shredded sundried tomatoes (or sliced fresh tomatoes) and crumbled goats feta all drizzled with balsamic vinegar and Grumpy Grandmas chilli infused olive oil. – A salad lovers delight.
