What’s GREAT at the Market this Week?
Capsicum
This week the spotlight is on capsicum – the star of many refreshing summer salads and like all fresh produce it is good for us as well. Being high in antioxidants and Vitamin C – the fresher the capsicum the better the nutritional value – one of the many real values of having such fresh seasonal produce every week.
Although botanically capsicum is a fruit and in the same family as tomatoes (both are nightshades) – it is generally referred to as a vegetable. In most countries it is known as a pepper. We mostly have the green and red capsicums at the market although occasionally we do have the yellow ones. Generally the warmer the colour the sweeter the flavour.
When selecting your capsicum choose ones that are firm, glossy and heavy for their size.
Avocados – Although Doug and Blanche Narbey’s avocado season has finished Jumping Red Ant will have avocados for about another three weeks.
Coming soon: Xmas Artisan Stalls on 30th November and 7th December
We are bringing you the opportunity to purchase some amazingly unique Christmas gifts at our annual Christmas designers and artisans inclusion at the farmers market. Here we feature just two of the stalls that will be offering unique gift inspirations:
This week we are featuring
- Homestead and Co: Sam and Carol have created natural, sustainable handcrafted wraps for keeping food fresh and free of contaminants found in plastic wrap.
- Colour and Words: As an author Chris Degenhardt has written many Science-Art Books and works of fiction. He has self
-published and now has his work published by Smashwords and Amazon as multi-platform e Books, as well as Feedaread who publishes his print editions.
As an artist he has just recently produced the most amazing series where each painting individually shows a portion of a jungle animal. Intriguing ….
