Root vegies have arrived – beetroot, carrot and lots of radish plus …. 🥕

Mid-May already and I am writing this wrapped in a rug on this cool, very windy morning. How the sun outside beckons! But the aroma of a cake in the oven – almost ready to have with a cuppa is one of my cooler weather joys.

With beetroot in season right now what better than one of my favourites – Jamie Oliver’s gf epic chocolate and beetroot cake. Click on the link below for the recipe. Or if you prefer we have a moist beetroot and chocolate cake using flour on our Recipes page. See the second link Recipes along the bar on our website.

Beetroot, carrots and radish – in fact root vegies generally are flooding into the market now. First was Everest Farm stall with their slim carrots with leafy green (edible) tops and lush looking beetroot and radish.

Tania at Summit Organics sent me this fabulous photo of her with a handful of big juicy carrots picked this weekend. And who wouldn’t be happy picking organic carrots high up in Tyalgum –  eight kilometres beyond Tyalgum Village in the heart of the Caldera. They also have new season ginger plus radish – several varieties – and so many varieties of delicious crunchy and/or buttery lettuce.

If you have ever enjoyed a farm walk at Summit Organics when Rod and Tania share the love and the effort that they put into creating rich nutrient dense soils to grow the food we enjoy in – you would understand why this little green frog decided to nestle into the cress grown on their farm (see photo). Such a safe haven for our critters.

Sylva Lining Organics has an interesting variety of radish as well as ginger and turmeric in the root vegies range. They also have lots of leafy greens and some new season citrus.

Bio Organic Farm has loads of vegies too. Originally specialising in capsicum, cucumbers and tomatoes Uriah and Shyamli (also known as Oogie and Basil) have put a huge effort into expanding their range of vegies and fruit.  Check out the photo of their capsicum. Irresistible!

DON’T forget our newest stall – Sol Ghee and Ian McRae is back with his macadamia nuts.
