The fruit and vegies that are ripe and ready is what should end up on our tables. So like good art let the raw materials available at the market inspire you — freshly harvested for the market – see what you can create and please share your recipe/s.
What’s New this week?
Bio Organic Farm – Avi and Zehvit ‘s early planting of autumn greens is now productive with a variety of mixed lettuces such as red oak, butter and cos available this week. Silver beet and spinach are being picked today as well as chard, kale and herbs – rocket, coriander and mint. Great to toss into a mixed salad.
Organic Chinese cabbages are in good supply at the Bio Organic farm stall so this week why not t ry a crunchy noodle and wombok (chinese) cabbage salad – link to the recipe follows: (http://allrecipes.com.au/recipe/22041/chinese-cabbage-salad.aspx?o_is=Hub_TopRecipe_1)
Cumquats are back in season so enjoy this bust of flavour.
Dragon fruit – this wonderful sweet crunchy fruit is back in season so visit Rainbow Fruit Flats this week and stock up on this delicious night flowering vine like cactus. Low in calories I like to eat it straight out of its own purpose built bowl (when cut lengthwise simply scoop out with a spoon). It is also great in smoothies.
Jumping Red Ant continues to have early Fuerte avocados but be quick as this popular item runs out early.
Clothiers Creek Fresh Produce still has red papaya but again this is also popular so be early to ensure you don’t miss out.
Local pumpkin breakfast soup to warm you up on this chilly morning will be available this week from Local Fusion Foods.
Crabbes Creek Woodfired now has stoneground loaves- all made with sour dough.
And if you are gluten free there is so much to choose from:
Crumpets at Crumbs and Stuff plus a special GF cake each week.
Samosas at Sri Govinda Dham who also offer a range of cakes including GF.
And Local Fusion Foods serve their haloumi and quinoa salad wraps on a plate for anyone who is GF. delightful with a range of dressing/source options.
Stallholder updates:
11th Hour Coffee is back this week – Alistair is back but the weather will influence where he is placed so look out for the blackboard sign telling you where to pick up your morning coffee.
We are watching the weather report to see where stalls need to be this week. If it is a wet morning they will be relocated to fit as many as possible into the pavilion. The forecast indicates that there is a high chance of another significant East Coast Low mid-week with heavy rain and possible damaging winds – likely to hit SE Qld so hopefully not until after the morning market
Entertainment this week: Broadfoot encore this week with their new album ‘The Sun Warms the Sea’. Everyone enjoyed their music so much last week we thought you would enjoy an encore.
