Mangoes and pitaya – what a colourful mix!

What’s GREAT at the Market this Week?

Oops I have only now – Tues evening  – been advised by Blueberry Fields that the heat and rain affected the blueberries and there were not enough to pick for tomorrow. The good news is that Mamey Sapotes are back at Jumping Red Ant – such an unusual and sweet creamy flesh makes this a delicious fruit. It  is perfect in smoothies.

Fresh raspberries are still available at Tallogum Raspberries and Rainbow Fruit Flats have a few strawberries each week too.

It not only looks fascinating but it tastes good and is great for you – yes dragon fruit now often called Pitaya – is being mooted as a new super food! High in fibre and low in calories with many health benefits it is so easy to enjoy. I love eating it straight from its own natural bowl – simply cut one in half length ways and scoop out the flesh with a teaspoon. It is also great in smoothies, gives great colour to fruit ice blocks and is delicious combined with mango, blueberries, and lashings of cream or yoghurt. You will find these every week at our Rainbow Fruit Flats stall.

With mangoes, paw paw, new season Royal Galas, passionfruit and always the best sweetest bananas and now dragon fruit and more we have such delicious fruit choices.

Still GREAT this week are mangoes – R2E2, Kensington Prides at the Everest Farm stall and at Jumping Red Ant.

Costanzo have their delicious new season Royal Galas but their muscat grapes still haven’t been harvested – hopefully next week.

The great specials on organic garlic is available at Sylva Lining Organics and if you missed last weeks post – One Organic seedlings is back. It is perfect weather for planting your summer seedlings.

Last week we welcomed new stallholders Rod and Tania Bruin from Summit Organics and they are happily returning this week with their vast range of fresh local produce grown at their Tyalgum based farm.

All Natural Meat Co will continue carrying Oakleigh Farm’s free range eggs this week.

Sylva Lining Organics carries David Wynn’s organic eggs and those from their own farm when supplies are high enough.

ABSENT THIS WEEK:

  • 11th Hour Coffee – Alistair is taking a well earned holiday for the next 2 weeks so to fill this gap we welcome Tory and Carmen Hirst’s Three Sons Coffee Cartel. Tory and his family have moved to Tumbulgum so it is great to support another local family. Their set up is big so you will find them at the entry gate pumping out coffees this week and next.
  • Tropical Delights is away for the remainder of the month as Bob and Irene are both o’seas.

Season has ended for: Avocados, macadamia nuts, pecan nuts. They will return in April.
