Local Artisan Pop Up – Emu Beads

Meet Michele! You will no doubt remember Michele’s stall from last years’ artisan pop ups. Michele’s stall is full of her own handmade glass beads made into her own jewelry. Michele tells us that she discovered lamp work beads while searching for unusual glass beads for her jewelry designs. She was disappointed by the generic, readily available, machine-made glass beads which didn’t compliment her own designs. So one thing led to another and her first 7 handmade beads were made on a butane torch. From this day forward Michele was mesmerised and captivated by the glowing, viscous glass and the possibility of designing all her own beads. Michele tells us that Emubeads’ evolution is a process of discovery through practice – layering, shaping, texturing, mixing glass and additions of recycled metal, which in this world of waste production, repurposing potential waste, sandwiched between layers of glass feels positive.
